Mr Umapathy has over 25 years’ experience in managing ENT conditions in adults and in children.

Prior to joining Nobles Hospital in 2018, Mr Umapathy was based in Bolton for 12 years at the Royal Bolton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and had practising privileges at the BMI Beaumont Hospital to see private patients.

Mr Umapathy was a named trainer for higher specialist trainees in ENT for 10 years. He completed two visiting fellowships in Rhinology and Facial Plastics in Amsterdam, Netherlands and in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Other Experience

Mr Umapathy has additional qualifications in medical law (LLM Medical Law) and high impact leadership from the University of Cambridge. He is currently undertaking MSc in pain management. He has an interest in teaching and training and always willing to help doctors in training.

Mr Umapathy is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and is an active member of national selection for the higher specialist trainees in otolaryngology in the UK. He is the service lead for ENT for Nobles’ hospital.

Mr Umapathy works well with colleagues. He has helped build an excellent team in ENT over the past 4 years. He has been providing a safe, effective and a high-quality service at Nobles hospital and is keen to see that the island’s health care is provided as much as possible on the island with close links with the tertiary centres in the UK. He maintains close working relationship with the general practitioners and works collaboratively in the best interests of the patients.

Clinical conditions

Mr Umapathy sees both adults and children with a variety of ear, nose, and throat conditions, including sore ears, sore throat, blocked nose, voice problems, snoring, sleep apnoea, swollen tonsil & adenoids, sinusitis, nasal polyps, fluid build-up in the ears, neck lumps, salivary gland tumours and thyroid nodules. Operation theatre procedures

He has extensive experience in several surgical procedures (both adults and children) including septoplasty (for blocked nose), grommet insertion (for glue ears), adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), nasal polypectomy (removal of polyps), vocal fold surgery (for voice), ear draining (pus or fluid from the ears), myringoplasty (for repairing hole in the ear drum) and several diagnostic endoscopic procedures such laryngoscopy.
